2008 VMA Videos & Review

So with this being my first post in a while, I am excited it falls the day after the VMA's. The show is always exciting and I love seeing the performances. I have videos of some of the highlights below, but first I will give my thoughts.

  • Britney Spears looked incredible. She was beautiful from head to toe, and although I wanted her to perform, I was glad she didn't. After watching her open this years VMA's and seeing her nerves, I saw she still needs work. She just needs to get her confidence back, but who wouldn't be nervous after her performance last year. She was braver than I could ever dream. Congrats to her for taking home three VMA's - one for every category she was nominated for!!
  • Russell Brand was funny, although I am not sure he will make it big over here. As I said on RC, you can't make fun of another country - in the country, at their awards show.
  • Rihanna rocked out as usual, she is like Beyonce on crack.
  • Christina Aguilera looked amazing, although her outfit made her look bigger than she is. She hasn't lost the baby weight yet, but she still looks great. I was glad to see toned down hair and lips. She did really surprise me by lip syncing for most of it though. That's not really her style. She is so known for her powerhouse voice, but I guess when you add a dance routine in there you need a little help.
  • I wanted to see more of Katy Perry's performance. It was so rushed and went to commercials! Why advertise her as a performer if you're not gonna show it? And LL Cool J - he deserves more respect than that.
  • I am on a huge Lil' Wayne kick, he is on my i pod 24/7. He really did an amazing job, I loved the simplicity of just him. I especially thought he did an incredible job after losing his daughter earlier last month. It is sad how the with the really good, comes the really bad.
  • Kanye West was awesome too. Expecting to see him top every one's performance with extravagant sets and what not, it was a pleasant surprise to see him perform his new single Love Lockdown, and keep it simple. It was calming and just about the song, which I found refreshing. He may be coming out with a new album this year, so that is something to look forward to.
Anyway, over all I enjoyed this years VMA's. I found the Paramount set to be crowded and small looking, which made it seem less exciting in a way. However I did enjoy their ability to change the sets for the artists. What are your thoughts on the 2008 VMA's?
