Dylan Lauren Candy Store Re-Launch

Dylan Lauren, the 33-year-old daughter of fashion mogul, Ralph Lauren, is in the news lately because of her sweet entrepreneurial undertakings, and her job as host of a series of high profile Super Bowl parties in Tampa, Florida’s historic Ybor City.

Last month, Dylan had a grand re-opening party for her popular candy store, Dylan’s Candy Bar. With locations in New York, Long Island, Houston, and Orlando, Dylan clearly doesn’t plan to rely on her father, Ralph, to be her sugar daddy. But it does seem the young entrepreneur picked up on her father’s ability to run a successful business.

Dylan’s Candy Bar held a re-launch bash that included Willy Wonka-esque party favors such as candy-decorated cocktails, baked treats, and even those old-school candy necklaces. The store has been revamped, and will now include a finer selection of chocolates, and, not surprisingly, clothes.

Running a business based on candy may seem a bit foolish during tough economic times because with consumer spending down, clearly, candy is not a necessity for most. But let us not forget that during the Great Depression, many people used chocolate bars as a means to get through the day. Chocolate was inexpensive, sweet enough to raise the blood sugar level, and it would temporarily fill the belly.

All this leaves me to wonder whether or not she has any dentist friends who are doubling as investors.
